Netscape Communicator 4.x News Reader set up

I will go through all set up procedures, you may skip to any section if you already know the basics. The examples are for Netscape Communicator 4.x.  If you use a different version you may find the set up slightly different for you.

To subscribe to a News Server:

• From the Netscape menu bar option select Edit > Preferences
• Expand the Mail & Newsgroups folder, select News Servers, and click the Add button.
• Enter the name of the News Server you wish to add to your list in the properties dialogue box. If it requires that you enter a user ID/Password to log in check the name/password box, otherwise leave it unchecked.
• Select identity and enter your Newsgroup identity and e-mail address (include any spam blocks you want).
• Select the Formatting option and set the message formatting to compose in plain text.

Subscribing to news groups on the news server:

• Right click on the News Server in your accounts  list and select Subscribe to Newsgroups.
• Select the groups you wish to subscribe to be highlight and clicking subscribe or double clicking on them.
• When you finish, the list of news groups you have subscribed to will show in the news server account.

Make sure you set your Netscape News Reader to post in plain text.  Many people use dedicated news readers that cannot display html posts and will not be able to help you if you post in HTML.

You can also add news servers by selecting add in the newsgroup dialogue palette, selecting NNTP news server, then entering the sever name in the dialogue box.
