USS CABOT CVL-28

Our USS Cabot CVL-28 project started in 1997 and ended in 2000. Conceived as an Artificial Reef Project our awareness of her historical significance turned our efforts towards saving her.

We encourage all who end here at this site to visit, look at pictures of the carrier Ernie Pyle called the " Iron Woman of the Pacific" and read about her rich history, like Bull Halsey's " Streamlined Bait" in the Air Groups History Section. On October 16th, 1944 eight Hellcat fighters from one carrier- the USS Cabot CVL-28 engaged 70 attacking enemy aircraft, shooting down a total of 27 in a little more than 15 minutes, with one loss whose pilot was recovered.

Although her physical existence is now gone the one gift that remains today is our very freedom that she and all of her fine veterans fought to protect and pass on.
